3rd, 4th & 5th graders got a chance to visit “Ikat Silk and Cotton garments weaving factory” located in the famous “Pochampally” town. Students actually got to witness personnel weaving garments in traditional geometric patterns in Ikat style of dyeing. The intricate designs find their way into sarees and dress materials. The designs and the craftwork originating from this place is appreciated throughout the country & the globe. The Indian government’s official air carrier, Air India, has its cabin crew wear specially designed pochampally silk sarees.
It is important for Students to realize and appreciate how much of hard work goes into the making of a product. Be it a garment, a piece of art or just a mere utility item. It is important for them to also know the culture, the heritage and the roots behind these products. Hence the choice of taking these students to Pochampally on a bright sunny September day. A day they all had fun, made memories and most importantly learnt something new.
